How the Toyota Prius Developed into the Toyota Prius Prime

2017 Toyota Prius Prime

The Prius Prime is fairly new to the auto market, with the 2017 model being its breakout vehicle. So, how does the Prime measure up to the original Prius? Read more to discover what makes this vehicle stand out amongst all others.

History of the Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius is a full hybrid electric vehicle that made its debut in Japan in 1997. Then, in 2000, this vehicle was sold worldwide. It was first produced as a 4-door sedan, but shape-shifted into a 5-door hatchback in 2003. The Prius was one of the first mass-produced hybrid vehicles. Therefore, its name carries a lot of weight in its class. Buyers have trusted this model for years, and it has not brought much disappointment. In fact, its only gotten better and better.

Over time, various versions of the Toyota Prius have been released. An extended hatchback wagon, the Prius V, was released in 2011. Also, during that same year, Toyota debuted the Prius C, a subcompact hatchback. Then, in 2012, the Prius plug-in hybrid hit the market and took the automotive industry by storm. That was, at least, until the Toyota Prius Prime hit the pavement.

The Toyota Prius Prime

The Prius Prime was released here in the states in November of 2016. As soon as this vehicle hit the market, it soared to the top of the hybrid class. Since its predecessor (the Prius) was already a consumer favorite, the new model was immediately credible. Plus, with its hybrid upgrades, the Prius Prime was a must buy.

Toyota’s Prius Prime comes equipped with the highest MPGe rating when in an all-electric mode than any vehicle in its class – EVER. In fact, it has an EPA rating of *120 MPGe! This vehicle runs completely on electricity while in all-electric (EV) mode – unlike any other Prius before. Additionally, with its change in exterior and interior design, its definitely been taken to another level.

So, now that the 2018 model is underway, how could it possibly top last year’s model? You’ll have to wait and see once this vehicle is released. Based off of the Toyota Prius Prime’s track record though, you’re in for something special.
