Attend The Manassas Christmas Parade!

This December, downtown Manassas will start the holiday season right with the annual Greater Manassas Christmas Parade! Now in its 74^th year, the parade is one of our community’s favorite Christmas traditions, bringing families out to see the floats, balloons, and even Santa himself.

When and Where

The parade will head through downtown Manassas on Saturday, December 7. It will begin at 10 a.m., and should run for about two hours. The route will start at Mathis Avenue and head toward Lee Avenue.

The 2019 Parade

With over 100 floats, balloons, cars, marching bands, and other participants, the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade is one of the largest holiday parades in Northern Virginia. Each year, the parade floats are centered around a unique theme, and this year’s procession is all about “Christmas Stories.” You may see floats depicting classic scenes from A Christmas Carol, “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” and many other tales new and old. While the floats might cruise by with Rudolf, Ebenezer Scrooge, the Grinch, merry elves, and other familiar faces, you’ll have to wait until the end of the parade to see Santa Claus.

Best in Show

All the participating groups will be judged on their Christmas Spirit, with winners recognized at the following city council meeting. In addition to their best use of festive flair, specific groups will also be awarded based on unique criteria.  Floats will be judged by their construction quality and use of the “Christmas Stories” theme, while performers will be graded on their act. The judges for this event are all actual judges from local courts.

Un-Trim-A-Tree

For four years running, the parade organizers have partnered with Un-Trim-A-Tree to gather new toys for local children. Before the parade officially starts, a special float will ride ahead to collect unwrapped gifts, so feel free to bring a toy to donate. Last year, Un-Trim-A-Tree brightened up the holidays of more than 5,000 children.
