Cougar Literacy Run

Cougar Literacy Run

The Cougar Literacy Run is coming up, a fun local event that supports a good cause. After a year off, the Cougar Literacy Run is back and ready to provide fun for students, friends, and families of Manassas Park and Cougar elementary schools. The team at Miller Toyota is proud to be a sponsor for the run, and we’re looking forward to a day of excitement for people of all ages.

Where and When

This year’s Cougar Literacy Run will be on Saturday, May 5, a day which should make it easier for most people to attend, regardless of schedules. The 5K run begins at 7:59 a.m., and the activities end at noon. The Kids’ One Mile Fun Run starts at 10 a.m. The event will be at Cougar Elementary School, which is at 9330 Brandon St. here in Manassas.

How to Enter

If you want to participate in the run, you can fill out the entry form and turn it in or opt for online registration. You can register online until May 3. The entry fee is $30 for a single applicant, but families of four or more only pay $20 each. Staff or students at Manassas Park City Schools and military personnel or veterans only pay $25 to register. Kids don’t need to pay to enter the One Mile Fun Run if they finished their reading goal.

More Than Just a Run

Following the run, there will be small refreshments and drinks to help participants get back their energy. There will also be raffles where you can win prizes and tables set up by local vendors and businesses. There will also be an awards ceremony for winners of the 5K at 9 a.m. Awards go to the top three overall finishers (female/male), the youngest 5K participant, and the first and second female and male in age groups that are divided by decade, starting with 19 and under and ending with 70+.

Promoting Literacy

The Cougar Literacy Run lives up to its name and furthers the education of students in several ways. The funds raised via the event go to support the literacy develop of students at Manassas Park and Cougar elementary schools with technology. In the past, funds have gone towards things like Google Nexus tablets, their cases and carts, and printing resources. Additionally, students who complete a reading challenge (which already started) get a free T-shirt as well as complimentary entry into the Fun Run portion of the event, encouraging them to finish the reading challenge.
