The RAV4 Hybrid uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine paired with an electric motor. The engine puts out 112 horsepower and the motor starts its contribution in 141 horsepower. The rear independent motor supplies another 67 horsepower. Storage for the system comes in a sealed nickel metal hydride 244.8 volt battery under the rear seat. The total output for the gas-electric powertrain is 194 horsepower, which beats out the 176 horsepower of the gas-only version. There is an estimated 34 mpg city/31 mpg highway, 33 combined mpg* with the RAV4 Hybrid.

All RAV4 trims got a facelift this year, including the RAV4 Hybrid. The new makeover gives its previous aerodynamics and stylish appearance more ways to stand out. The front looks more like an SUV than a crossover. The RAV4 Hybrid also has a combination of daytime running lights, LED headlights and taillights, and Hi-Lo Headlights.

The interior on all RAV4s, including the hybrid, has been updated and includes 6.1 inch touch screen, backup camera, Bluetooth wireless technology, as well as heated front seats. The 60/40 folding second seat will also make Manassas RAV4 Hybrid owners happy.

The 2016 RAV4 Hybrid is among the first Toyota vehicles to get Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) package, which will be in all Toyotas by 2017. This includes:
