Interior Comparison

Toyota marks an all-new generation with the 2024 Tacoma and offers buyers a choice of two cab styles. Those who only need two seats can select the two-door Xtracab. This comes with useful features, such as MOLLE panel side pockets, floor storage, and a lockable rear storage panel. Moreover, the front seat can be flat-folded to create a work surface. Conversely, for buyers who need more than two seats, there’s a roomy four-door five-seat Double Cab. The Double Cab comes with storage behind the rear seat backs and a hidden compartment underneath the rear seat cushions. Meanwhile, the 2024 GMC Canyon is only available in four-door, five-seat form. It doesn’t have many of the storage features that the 2024 Tacoma offers, either.

Moreover, the 2024 Tacoma has two cargo bed lengths available. The Xtracab only comes with a 6-foot bed. The Double Cab can be specified with this or a more urban-friendly 5-foot bed. Furthermore, the 2024 Tacoma offers buyers some useful in-bed accessories. These include a 2,400-watt AC power socket, a power-operated tailgate, an onboard air compressor, and exterior scene lighting. Meanwhile, the 2024 Canyon only comes with a five-foot cargo bed. However, it does offer a MultiStow tailgate that includes an integrated storage compartment.

The 2024 Tacoma and the 2024 Canyon have standard Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®. They also include Bluetooth® hands-free and wireless audio streaming. Higher trims of both trucks add digital instrument clusters, premium sound systems, and wireless phone chargers. Also present for higher trim levels are dual-zone climate control, a powered driver seat, and heated front seats. The 2024 Tacoma even includes special IsoDynamic front seats for the TRD Pro trim. These seats have an integrated air-over-oil shock absorption system. Hence, they keep occupants comfortable and safe during high-speed off-road driving.

Performance Comparison

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma range uses a 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine for all trims. Lower trims get 228 horsepower, while higher trims have up to 278 horsepower. Moreover, buyers can pick between a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic transmission, depending on trim choice. Rear-wheel drive is standard for some trims, while four-wheel drive is optional. Other trims are exclusively four-wheel drive. There are also some TRD trims with FOX Racing suspension, all-terrain tires, and underbody skid plates. Alternatively, the TrailHunter trim features 33-inch tires, Old Man Emu suspension, and stronger underbody protection.

The 2024 GMC Canyon has a 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The engine makes 310 horsepower and is connected to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. A manual transmission is not offered. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is available. There are also the AT4X and AT4X-AEV trims that offer enhanced off-roading capabilities.

Safety Features Comparison

Every 2024 Tacoma has the latest Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0 suite as standard. It includes pre-collision with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane tracing assist. Full-speed radar-guided cruise control is also standard, as is lane departure warning with steering assist. Then, all trims have a road sign assist system, rear pedestrian detection, and proactive driving assistance. The 2024 GMC Canyon has some of these features, but others are optional or unavailable.
