The 2024 Toyota Corolla is one of the most well-known compact cars in the world. It is sold in over 100 countries and offers an exceptional blend of features, reliability, and efficiency. However, it faces competition from newer models, such as the 2024 Kia Forte. How does the Toyota Corolla stack up?
Let's see who makes the better compact car in a Toyota vs. Kia comparison. We'll check out each car's safety systems. We'll look at their interior specifications. We'll consider their performance credentials. Then, we'll recommend the best compact car to buy and drive. You can also check out the 2024 Corolla range at Miller Toyota in Manassas, VA.
The 2024 Toyota Corolla is available as a sedan or a hatchback. The latter is a better choice for buyers who may need more cargo capacity. The sedan provides 13 cubic feet, while the hatchback offers 18 cubic feet. Plus, buyers of the hatchback can also get 23 cubic feet thanks to the Enhanced Cargo Space option. Then, you can also fold down the rear seat backs to get more space. Meanwhile, the 2024 Kia Forte only comes as a sedan with a 15 cubic foot trunk.
For added convenience, the 2024 Corolla has plenty of storage. All trims get door bins, front plus rear cup holders, and a roomy glovebox. There's a center console storage box plus a front-center console storage tray. Furthermore, higher trims offer dual-zone automatic climate control, a power driver seat, heated front seats, and Toyota's premium Softex® seat upholstery. Buyers can even specify metallic interior accents, chrome inner door handles, and a sunglasses storage case in the overhead console. The 2024 Forte only has some of these features.
Both compact cars have Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ for all trims. They also get Bluetooth® hands-free and wireless audio streaming. 2024 Corolla buyers receive dual front plus rear USB-C charging ports for every trim. Higher trims of the 2024 Corolla can be equipped with a 9-speaker JBL sound system that includes a subwoofer and amplifier. Meanwhile, both compact cars can also be optioned with wireless phone chargers and Wi-Fi hotspots.
The 2024 Corolla range comes with a 2-liter, 169 horsepower, 4-cylinder engine. Hailing from Toyota's Dynamic Force engine family, the power plant delivers an impressive torque of 151 pound-feet. It drives the front wheels via a CVT gearbox. A notable feature of this gearbox is the physical launch gear. Toyota says that this gear acts like first gear in a non-CVT type and aids initial acceleration. Moreover, all trims have Eco and Normal modes. Higher trims gain a Sport mode.
The 2024 Forte is offered with two engines. Most trims have a 2.0-liter, 147 horsepower engine. This engine is less powerful than the 2024 Corolla’s unit, with just 132 pound-feet of torque. It is also paired with a CVT gearbox and a FWD system. However, the GT trim has a turbocharged 1.6-liter, 201 horsepower engine. This engine can be paired with a 7-speed automatic or 6-speed manual gearbox. It is rated for 195 pound-feet of torque.
When in sedan form, the 2024 Corolla can be specified with a hybrid powertrain. Buyers get up to 134 horsepower and optional all-wheel drive. However, no hybrid powertrain or AWD system is available for the 2024 Forte range.
The 2024 Corolla features Toyota’s latest Safety Sense™ 3.0 suite of active and passive safety systems. Standard features include a full-speed range dynamic radar-guided cruise control, lane departure warnings, a tire pressure monitoring system, and pre-collision with pedestrian detection. Automatic emergency braking, a proactive driving assist system, and a road sign assistant are also present.
Furthermore, every 2024 Corolla has automatic high beams as standard features. Most trims also get blind spot monitoring. The 2024 Forte has some of these features, but others are optional or not offered.
The 2024 Toyota Corolla beats the 2024 Kia Forte, and our comparison shows why the Corolla is still a winning compact car. It has a well-built cabin, well-matched performance, and class-leading safety features. That makes it our recommendation, and we think you should experience it, too. Contact our team at Miller Toyota in Manassas, VA, for a test drive. Once you’ve sampled the 2024 Corolla, we’ll help you take one home.
