April Auto Maintenance

Spring is the perfect time for automotive maintenance for a few reasons. First, the weather is temperate, so you'll be able to complete DIY car care projects outside comfortably. Second, completing maintenance and service tasks now ensures that your vehicle is in top shape as summer - and all of the longer drives it brings - rolls around.

If you're not quite sure where to start with spring car care, check out these tips for ensuring your vehicle is ready to roll as the weather warms up.

Get All Systems In Working Order

First, you'll want to check that all of your vehicle's systems are functioning properly. Be sure to read your owner's manual and follow the recommended service schedules. A few examples of systems to check include:

  • Correcting hard starts, rough idling, stalling, etc.

  • Flushing and refilling the cooling system (radiator) according to the service manual's recommendations.

  • Have a professional check the tightness and condition of all belts, clamps, and hoses.

  • Get an oil change and replace the air filter if needed.

When small issues are sorted out by a qualified automotive technician early on it can save you a lot of money by preventing large, costly repairs later.

Clean And Inspect The Exterior

Treat your car to a good carwash before summer starts! After your vehicle is squeaky clean, you'll want to inspect every light and bulb and replace any that are burned out. Next, replace any worn out wiper blades and refill the wiper fluid. Additionally, you'll want to perform a quick visual inspection on your tires to check for the tread wear and bald patches - make sure your tires are rotated and aligned every several thousand miles.

Clean The Inside

Finally, give your car a good cleaning on the inside. Pick up any stray trash and clutter, organize your glove box, interior compartments, and the trunk to make sure your essentials can be easily accessed. You can vacuum out any debris, dust, or crumbs that may have accumulated, then give hard surfaces a wipe down with a damp rag or towel. Before you know it your car will feel brand new again!
