A Brief History of the Avalon
The Toyota Avalon was introduced in February 1994 at the Chicago Auto Show as a 1995 year model vehicle. The Avalon was originally based on a stretched XV10 Camry Platform before eventually being moved to the Toyota K platform and now the TNGA: GA-K platform that it resides on now. The Avalon’s name is taken from the legendary island from Arthurian legends, and shares Toyota’s tradition of naming its sedans for things associated with royalty (Crown, Corona, Camry, Corolla, Tiara, and Scepter also being in the Toyota sedan family). The Avalon has been a success since its launch and continues to hold its own in an SUV-crazed world thanks to Toyota’s constant innovation and the Avalon’s stellar performance.
