When you're in the market for a full-size truck, a key player that you should consider is the Toyota Tundra. Back with a new model, the full-size truck has found its way to local dealers throughout America. With its arrival at Miller Toyota, you can expect to find an upgraded version of an old classic. And true enough, the new Toyota Tundra dresses to impress its audience.
Toyota Tundra Overview
When choosing which Toyota Tundra to drive, you have many options, including the CrewMax cab, double cab, and regular cab. Picking a 4-door configuration lets you seat either 5 or 6 passengers, depending on your preference. After that, you get to pick your trim: the SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, or the 1794 Edition. No matter which trim you select, the Tundra is powerfully capable, making it obvious why this is one of the top full-size trucks on the market. The most stylish, value-driven and capable Tundra yet gets more upgrades, including standard V8 power across the board, a new TRD Pro model with special off-road suspension and an available spray-in bed liner.
The new Toyota Tundra comes in 6 different trim levels. The SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1974 Edition, and the TRD Pro.
The SR5 trim is available whether you pick a Double or CrewMax body style, and it comes standard with useful features, such as fog lights, variable intermittent wipers, center console shifter, and power sliding windows. In terms of style, it gives you chrome grille surround and rear bumper and entertainment comes with an upgraded instrument panel as well as the 7-inch touchscreen display for satellite and HD radio.
Upgrading to the Toyota Tundra Limited gives you 20-inch alloy wheels, chrome heated side mirrors, bed-rail system, leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather upholstery, heated front power bucket seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, Entune App Suite, and navigation with the option of blind-spot monitoring.
Choosing to drive a Toyota Tundra platinum around Manassas throws in outside mirrors that are heated and power folding, a sunroof, heating and ventilation for the front seats, and 12 speakers from JBL.
At the top of the line, you can enjoy all the comforts you want in the 1794 Edition, only available with the CrewMax body. Luxurious appointments include saddle-brown leather upholstery, soft-touch materials in the door trim, and unique exterior details in silver, a new instrument panel, and a shift console. These unique features work together to give you the feel associated with cowboys, preparing you and your Tundra for any adventure to come.
As far as size is concerned, there is no denying that the Toyota Tundra is a very large truck. Stretching itself to meet the allowable standards dictated by law, the Tundra classifies itself as a light-duty truck. Available in three cab lengths (Regular, Double Cab, and CrewMax), the decision does not just rely on them. The next step is to choose a particular trim level option from the five available.
Regular cab length is suited for individuals who do not have a high demand for a full-size truck. With a maximum of three-seating capacity, in-cabin storage space is not a priority on this cab length. Double cab option adds a set of flip-up rear seats as well as rear-hinged doors. When not used by passengers, it doubles as extra cargo space. Finally, the CrewMax cab model option is where the Tundra is able to exhibit its capacity. Complete with four full-sized doors and a large second row, there is enough seating for five passengers.
The new Toyota Tundra will be the first in its segment to be equipped with a standard backup camera on all grades, and the only full-size pickup with available Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (Limited CrewMax, Platinum and 1794 Edition).
All Tundra models feature the standard Toyota Star Safety System™ that includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Smart Stop (SST) brake override technology.
Smart Stop Technology is designed to automatically reduce engine power when both brake and accelerator pedals are pressed at the same time under certain conditions, helping the driver bring the vehicle to a stop.
Tundra will be equipped with eight standard airbags including front seat-mounted side airbags, and front and rear Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags (RSCA) in all models, driver and front outboard passenger airbags with an Advanced Airbag System, and the segments only standard driver and front outboard passenger knee airbags.
Additional safety features include manual headlamp levelling on all grades and standard LED Daytime Running Lights on Platinum and 1794 Edition only.
Tundra continues to offer three proven powertrains that are among the best in its segment. A 4.0-liter Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) V6 is standard on Tundra Regular and Double Cab models and produces 270 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 278 foot-pounds of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. It is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with uphill/downhill shift logic. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 16 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city, 20 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg combined*.
The available 4.6-liter, DOHC i-Force V8 offers 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 327 foot-pounds of peak torque at 3,400rpm. EPA-estimated mpg fuel economy is 15 mpg city/19 mpg highway/16 mpg combined* on 4x2 models and 14 city/18 highway/16 combined on 4x4 models.
The Tundra workhorse, and still one of the most capable and advanced engines in the full-size pickup segment, is the 5.7-liter, DOHC i-Force V8. Tundra’s most popular engine with owners, it generates 381 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 401 foot-pounds of peak torque at 3,600 rpm. The 5.7-liter is offered in both gasoline and “Flex Fuel” variants. Fuel efficiency on 4x2 models is a competitive 13 mpg in the city,18 mpg on the highway and 16 mpg combined while the 4x4 achieves 13 mpg city/17 mpg highway/15 mpg combined*.
Both V8’s come standard with a six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. All Tundra engines feature an aluminium cylinder block and DOHC heads, along with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) for a broad torque curve and optimized efficiency.
